The Method

The Feldenkrais Method enables the versatile improvement and rehabilitation of our movement in both private and professional life.

By improving our perception and awareness of how we use and coordinate all parts of the body, we learn to perform our daily activities with greater ease, comfort and elegance – without strain or pain.

With the help of the Feldenkrais Method we can

Either rediscover movements that we may have forgotten or lost through daily habitual routines – whether these limitations are caused by chronic pain, stress-related tension, or the after-effects of an accident or surgery

Or

Relearn movements in order to experience more ease and joy in everyday activities such as walking, sitting or running.

How does it work?

The nervous system’s ability to reorganize and adapt – known as neuroplasticity – promotes rapid improvements in posture, balance, coordination, complex movement sequences and a general sense of wellbeing.

Perception, thinking, feeling and movement are all governed by the nervous system. They are closely interconnected and influence one another. Improving posture and movement patterns enhances our sense of competence and strengthens self-confidence.

Therefore the Feldenkrais Method supports both physical and mental vitality, contributing to overall health.

Movements performed gently, calmly and with unrestricted, continuous breathing help regulate and harmonize the entire nervous system.

Feldenkrais, Marlies Reitmeier

Feldenkrais lessons are gentle, safe and suitable for all ages and physical abilities.

The lessons

The method can be experienced in two formats: ATM (Awareness Through Movement) and FI (Functional Integration). Both are considered lessons because of the neurological learning process that takes place in the brain and body.

The Feldenkrais Method is a widely used and recognised teaching method, that is an integral part of many professional training programs in fields such as acting, dance, music, physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

ATM

Awareness Through Movement

Where we guide our own movements

FI

Functional Integration

Individual sessions in which the practitioner gently guides our movements.

Learning to inhibit unwanted contractions of muscles that function without, or in spite of, our will, is the main task in coordinated action.
